The Snitch over at SF Weekly alerted us that the Casto's Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott St) next to Duboce Park is putting together a new photography show focusing on LGBT families. They're seeking images from locals that best encapsulate your idea of what the ever evolving Queer family truly looks like especially in light of the recent legal dismantling of Prop 8 by the US Supreme Court and the resulting spate of LGBT marriages sweeping the neighborhood and City. The exhibit, "Celebrating Our Chosen & Extended Families.", is set to open at the Center on October 17th and run through December 14th, 2013. Here's the official skinny from the good people at Harvey Milk Photography Center:
Harvey Milk Photo Center is inviting amateur and professional photographers to submit photos representing the many facets and forms of family within the Bay Area LGBT community. A variety of family units, such as those consisting of parents and children, significant others, friends, extended family members, and pets, will be showcased in this exhibition. Snapshots welcome! We are seeking photos that are digital or film, color or black and white, vintage or current, candid or posed, and that include whole families or just a few members at a time. We welcome all ages and skill levels to submit, including kids, teens, adults, and seniors. Participants are also required to include a brief description (up to 250 words) about their families. Final selection of images will be at the discretion of San Francisco Recreation & Parks.
Submissions: 5 to 10 photos per person can be either electronically or dropped off in person during hours of operation. Don't forget to include a brief family story, 250 words or less, that helps put your picture into context. It will be displayed alongside your photo if it's chosen. Also include your full name, phone number, and email address with your submission. Email: Send JPEGs that are between 500 and 1000 pixels on the longest side to [email protected]. Mail/In-Person: Send or deliver hard copy images, to Harvey Milk Photo Center, 50 Scott St (at Duboce), San Francisco, CA, 94117. Deadline: There is a hard deadline of Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. Please note: Due to limited gallery space, judges from SF Rec. & Park will only check out the first 50 submissions as possible entries for the exhibit so get yours in there sooner than later if you want to show off your skills and people. Make sure to follow the link and get clued in on all the rules and regs at the bottom of the call for submissions post. So gather all you those you love-furry, related, married, four-legged, polyamorous, winged, adopted, extended and chosen family members--take some snaps--and send them in. HMPC Call for Entry
