A couple of Lower Haight businesses have gotten some national attention this month, from a major magazine and a nationwide competition, respectively.

First up, a recipe from Wing Wings made it into Food & Wine magazine this month. The recipe is for the Chicken Wings with Angry Sauce (apparently the magazine dropped the "Korean" from the name). It turns out the sauce is composed of nine ingredients, including soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and Korean chile paste. "Co-owner Lisa Shin of Wing Wings in San Francisco also uses the versatile sauce as a marinade for pork and as a dip for cucumber spears," writes Food & Wine. The magazine dubs the recipe a Staff Favorite, and recommends pairing it with a malty brown ale. Fortunately for you, just a block away from Wing Wings is Toronado, which CraftBeer.com has just named one of its Great American Beer Bars for 2013. Specifically, Toronado won second place in the Pacific category. (First place, in case your curious, went to The Bier Stein in Eugene Oregon -- Toronado was the only California bar to make the list of winners.) The results were based on 37,000 votes by CraftBeer.com readers from more than 5,000 nominations. Congrats to Wing Wings and Toronado for the recognition. And thanks to reader Doro S. for the tips!
