Inside Scoop SF reports the team behind the popular eatery Straw in nearby Hayes Valley who made culinary waves serving re-imagined carnival fare comfort food with a twist like The Ringmaster -- a cheddar cheese slathered, ground chuck burger trapped between a home-made glazed donut (insert Paula Deen impression here, DO-NUT darlin') is behind the Propropisiton Chicken poultrypalooza.
The menu centers around free-range chicken done one of three ways: fried (fried chicken), flipped (rotisserie chicken) and faked (tofu). Each of those can be served over salad, in a sandwich, or on the bone-or lack of bone-in the tofu's case.
Interior design is capitalizing on the voter/political theme the name Proposition Chicken evokes aiming for voter booths, ballots and all American color schemes. Look for them to open around Oct. 8th.
The now infamous logo for Hit Tops bar.ONGOING:Hi Tops, 2247 Market St, has decided to up their game and are taking a swing at serving brunch.
The wildly popular bar has already developed quite a following for their unique brand of bar food designed by Top Chef's competitor Jamie Lauren who also invented the bars daily menu.
Brunch service started this month alongside the San Francisco 49ers game on Sept. 9th to take advantage of football season. The food certainly has a manly flair. Items like fried chicken inside waffle tacos and homemade über flaky biscuits swimming in down home gravy. It's the kind of grub that sticks to your ribs yet tickles your culinary palette. The bar will walk the fine line between stereotypical Gay mentalities regarding brunch and meeting the needs of their Dudes who love Dudes who may or may not love sports but certainly would like to date someone hot and sporty.
Also included will be Hi Top's top-notch cocktails like Bloody Mary's created with vodka that's been infused with bacon. New brunch menu starts each Saturday and Sunday at 10 AM and will run 3 PM.
RUMOR: Sources sent the Biscuit info that the longtime 'Stro's staple, Zapata Mexican Grill, 4150 18th St., may be in jeopardy of losing their lease.
The property is owned by Castro land baron Les Natali. Mr. Natali has apparently intimated he isn't interested in renewing Zapata lease which, according to sources, runs out at the end of September.
Readers may also remember that Mr. Natali is the owner of the Patio Cafe space which has been in the process of recouping all licenses needed to reopen the restaurant space that's been shuttered for nearly 13 years.
We reached out to Mr. Natali pre-post but haven't heard back. Keep your fingers crossed this proves untrue. Even though Zapata's Yelp reviews read like the stock market report circa 2007 many people swear by its food plus the neighborhood already has enough empty retail space to contend with.
