Halloween aka Gay Christmas is quickly approaching and the City is abuzz with events, parties and only during October spooktacular special affairs. While the huge Castro Street Halloween holiday party is no more and part of neighborhood folk-lore there's still a lot of great things to do for you and every one you know. R. Kelly Trapped in the ClosetFriday, October 26th kick it all of at one of the scariest sing-a-longs ever staged. R. Kelly's 'Trapped In a Closet' at everyone's favorite Art Deco iconic landmark, The Castro Theatre (429 Castro St.). Hosted by Laurie Bushman and D'Arcy Drollinger with two shows p/day Friday and Saturday this event is quickly becoming a SF cult classic. If you're looking for something a little more intimate and a whole lot cheaper head over to the Midnight Sun (4067 18th St.) where local diva, Honey Mahogany, will be hosting a 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' sing-a-long and costume contest. This event is FREE and sure to be well attended so get there early and don't forget to bust out that Little Nell or Frankenfurter outfit you've had tucked away in your closet since high school. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJXOQJOeGNs Pumpkin Fest in Duboce ParkSaturday, October 27th is all about the kids. Beginning at two different locations in the Castro at 10AM you can choose which site you'd like to take the kids to for face painting, games, costume parade, special events and a whole lot of fun for FREE. Duboce Park (Duboce & Castro Sts.) and the Randall Museum (199 Museum Way) are both hosting unique, super cool, fun for the whole family events. Follow the links and get signed up and more details. At 2PM head back to the Castro Theatre (429 Castro) with the kids in tow for Laurie Bushman and Sara Moore first ever sing-a-long with the Tony award-winning musical 'Annie'. There's a costume look-a-like contest so don that curly red mop top wig and go see who takes top Annie honors. Saturday night if you're looking for something more adult with a 'only in SF' bent head to Cafe du Nord (2170 Market St.) for the 3rd annual Halloween installment of the monthly party, Dark Room. At 9PM join horror drag legend Peaches Christ for The 3rd Annual Dark Drag Cadaveret! co-hosted by Phatima, Lady Bear and the DARK DOLLS, Suppositori Spelling, and a performance by Per Sa and DADDIES PLASTIK. It's sure to be mind-blowing. Dark Room Halloween Sunday October 28th: Get your body and mind realigned for FREE over at Dolores Park (18th St & Dolores St.) when Purusha Yoga in the Park returns at 11AM. This popular and 1000 year old physical/spiritual practice is open to all skill levels. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing. Later, post metaphysical workout you can wander the Castro, have some brunch, catch up with friends or meander through either of our great bookstores, Aardvark Books (227 Church St.) or Books, Inc. (2275 Market St.), people-james-franco.jpeg-1280x960head to the Castro Theatre for an intimate event featuring Hollywood renaissance man and Bay Area native, James Franco, at 5:45PM. The quirky leading man and fan of all things odd will be reading from and discussing his latest book, 'Actors Anonymous' and fielding questions from the audience. Mr. Franco is presented courtesy of The Commonwealth Club.
