knife-stabbing-crime---96937441 It's been a few weeks since we've put together a post on the crime happening in the neighborhood so we thought we'd do an update. First, we'd like to share a letter that was sent to us by a reader who wanted to thank those that came to his aid on Monday after being assaulted by a driver,
On Monday, October 7 at approximately 2 pm I was walking my dog. When the light turned green I began to cross Market Street from the SE Corner of 35 Diamond when I was assaulted by a driver. The incident caused me to have a seizure (I have a regular history of seizures) in the street in front of the vehicle. I would like to thank the many pedestrians and other drivers whom came to my aide before the police and ambulance arrived to get me through my seizure. They then stayed to give the police a report of the incident. Thank you to these unnamed Angels and the example they set. It is good to know that despite the increase in violence there are those who are willing to help. -Dennis Neal Vaughn
Another reader sent us an email laying out details of a vicious mugging that happened this past Sunday,
My downstairs neighbor was mugged early Sunday morning coming home from the Castro.  He took the 24 Muni to his apartment at 15th and Castro.  He was followed off the bus (@15th and Castro Stop) by two black males. They took his wallet and cellphone.  They beat him badly enough that they knocked out two of his front teeth. The cops showed up, a lot of them actually, which made us feel better. I've let all of my neighbors know what happened and wanted to share as much with you. I think its important to keep this neighborhood safe and our fellow brothers and sisters alert and informed. -Kyle Blaquiere
sfpd_logoOutside of these crimes reported from readers above, the neighborhood has been fairly quiet when it comes to reported crimes. This could be due to the 48 arrests made by the SFPD back in September through a multi-agency effort targeting wanted suspects in the city. The operation was conducted utilizing officers from all 10 District Stations and the Violent Reduction Team. The operation was conducted in partnership with the San Francisco Sheriff's Department, United States Marshals Service, State Parole Agents, and San Francisco Adult Probation Officers. During the day long enforcement operation 48 people were arrested, including persons wanted for assault with deadly weapon, robbery, burglary and parole violations. Below is a roundup of crimes for the past 2 weeks that happened in the 'hood as reported from the SFPD. 10/6/2013 2:00AM - Robbery with force - 100 block of Castro The suspects, two black males of unknown age, approached the victim, a 25 year old white male, and attacked him. They punched and kicked the victim before fleeing on foot with his cell phone. The victim suffered a broken nose and was taken to a hospital. (See above for more details) 10/2/2013 11:55PM - Assault w/Deadly Weapon - Market and Church The suspect, a 17 year old Hispanic male, approached the victim, a 41 year old Hispanic male, and started a verbal altercation. The suspect punched the victim on the cheek with brass knuckles. Officers arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect. The victim suffered a laceration on his left cheek and was taken to SF General.
