New Fulton Street Muni Line Begins TomorrowFlickr/Ocu-Master
A pilot program to test a rapid version of the 5 Fulton bus line will debut tomorrow morning.

The 5L Fulton pilot program, featuring a faster version of the 5 Muni line making limited stops, is set to go into service tomorrow at 5am. On weekdays until 7pm, the 5L will only make 6 stops between Leavenworth and 6th Avenue: Van Ness, Fillmore, Divisadero, Masonic, Shrader and Arguello. The normal 5 Fulton route previously featured 21 stops along that same stretch, although a handful of stops are being removed to make the 5 faster as well. The SFMTA plans to study the new service for a full year, to determine whether the goals of improving travel times and pedestrian safety are met. If so, the 5L could become a permanent addition to Muni's lineup. If you take the 5L this week and have any feedback to share, come on back here and let us know, won't you?
