Outdoor Fitness Area Planned For Octavia
Remember how we told you about the boot camps being held twice a week at the PROXY space on Octavia? Well, the Basic Training folks are now looking to establish something far more ambitious at the location.

Today they're announcing plans to build a public, 24-hour, outdoor fitness hub at the site.
Here's how they describe the vision behind the project:
"The Basic Training Fitness Hub is a revolutionary answer to the problems city dwellers face when there are few if any outdoor fitness options outside their doors and offices. This "hub" will be a place where urbanites can mix things up on their way to or from work by jumping, climbing, swinging, running, pushing, playing or simply pondering the possibilities of free, unfettered fitness activity for all -- 24 hours a day."
The space will host both organized exercise classes and "organic movement," or as Basic Training puts it, "what happens when we aren't there." (Basic Training would host classes at the site, but it would otherwise be available for the public to use at any time.) The fitness hub would include:
  • Monkey bars
  • A 40-foot-long wall with attachments for TRX bands, battleropes, dowels for pull-ups and hurdles, etc.
  • "Step up" boxes for jumping and bench presses
  • Open space for yoga classes, boxing, meditation, etc.
  • Public art
To fund the project, Basic Training is running a campaign on Indiegogo. Their goal is to raise $40,000. If they exceed that total, the extra funds will be given to PROXY for installation of features like a filtered water fountain, an outdoor movie screen, and a public bathroom at the site. The campaign runs through mid-November. We'll let you know if this project gets off the ground!
