Two Weird Incidents From the Mailbag
We frequently get tips from readers about criminal activity and suspicious behavior in the neighborhood, but recently our mailbag has been overflowing with oddities. Here are a couple of note.

Yesterday, a reader sent in the above pic from a driveway on Pierce just south of Hayes. Apparently the driver of a stolen taxicab had mistakenly turned into the driveway thinking it was an alleyway, and crashed. It appears that no one was hurt in the incident, and the driver was arrested.
Reports from witnesses on Twitter suggest that the cab was stolen in the Civic Center area. However, despite at least eight cop cars being sent to the scene, an SFPD spokeswoman we talked to yesterday could find no record of the incident. So, that's all we've got.
In other bizarre news, a couple of weeks ago a reader reported a man being arrested on Hickory Street waving a samurai sword.
'I was awakened on Saturday morning to the sounds of police yelling "Get on the ground! Put it down on the ground!" outside my apartment on Hickory Street between Webster and Buchanan. When I went to the window of my apartment, I saw a man being arrested who had apparently been brandishing a large samurai sword.'
SFPD Northern Station recapped the incident in its monthly newsletter thusly:
"Officers were called to the area regarding a male subject walking around, holding and swinging a sword. The caller appeared very nervous and scared of the subject. Officers located the subject and approached him with their department issued less lethal bean bag shotgun, along with an officer with their service weapon as lethal cover. The officers ordered the male to the ground and detained him without further incident. They ran a computer check on the male and discovered several outstanding warrants for his arrest. The subject was booked at Northern Station."
