If you still haven't figured out plans for tonight, don't fret. We've rounded up some local options for eating, drinking, and reveling your way into 2014 and beyond.
Mad Dog in the Fog (530 Haight) kicks things off at 4pm, with a live broadcast from the BBC of the countdown to midnight in the UK and Ireland. Expect a free champagne toast and "banging Britpop to get the party swinging." Then, starting at 8pm, its Mad Dog's annual New Year's eve bash, with DJs, more champagne, and no cover. Nickies (466 Haight) is having a party with a video countdown and complimentary champagne toast at midnight, plus DJ I-Cue spinning top-40, hip hop, and club classics. It starts at 9pm, and there's no cover. The Page (298 Divisadero) will have a "modest" New Year's Eve, with some noisemakers and hats, and a complimentary toast of sparkling wine at midnight. Danny Coyle's is closed for a private party -- sorry. So is Churchill after 8pm. Molotov's and Toronado will be open for regular service. Madrone (500 Divisadero) has a Super New Years Dance Jam. DJs Sonny Phono and Bessed Drest and special guest iLL Alien will keep you groovin' from from 8pm to 2am. Cover is $10 at the door. For dinner, you have plenty of special menus to choose from. Uva Enoteca (568 Haight) is offering an optional prix fixe menu -- $45 for three courses, and a $25 optional wine pairing -- in addition to its regular menu. Maven (598 Haight) has a 4-course New Years Eve dinner, with seatings from 5pm to 9pm. The $40 menu includes Italian butter bean salad, potato gnocchi, Chinatown duck sliders, and Rocky's chicken. Plus there's an optional $40 cocktail pairing courtesy of bartender Kate Bolton. Reservations recommended. Ragazza (311 Divisadero) has a $55 prix fixe menu with three courses of holiday italian foods, plus a complimentary glass of prosecco and amuse bouche. Check out the full menu here, and make your reservation by emailing [email protected]. La Urbana (661 Divisadero) has a $95 set dinner menu before 8pm, and $125 after, in its main dining room. Meanwhile, the adjacent garage bar will be open to everyone, with a $20 cover that gets you one cocktail and complimentary appetizers after 11pm. Finally, for a more contemplative final night of the year, head to the Zen Center at Page and Laguna. Their New Year's Eve event begins at 8:30pm with a work meeting and temple cleaning, followed by a serving of noodle soup at 10pm, bell ringing, and a bonfire in the courtyard. And return at 8am tomorrow morning for a New Year's Procession and rooftop toast. And if by some chance you need to leave the neighborhood, consider commuting with the masses on Muni, for free. Yes, Muni will be free from 8pm tonight to 5am tomorrow morning. You can also get a free cab ride from 10pm to 4am if you call Luxor Cabs, courtesy of Berg Injury Lawyers. (Up to a $35 fare -- tips not included.) Know anything else going on in the neighborhood? Let us know in the comments. Otherwise have fun and be safe, whatever you do.
