Odds & Ends: A Weekend Assembly
A collection of goings on, including film crews, superstar children's authors, a free show at Amoeba and more.

First, as you might have seen or heard, the 1100 block of Haight (Buena Vista Park) is being occupied for the filming of Diary of a Teenage Girl, an adaptation of a coming-of-age partly-graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner. The film is to star Alexander Skarsgard and Kristen Wiig, and filming in the upper Haight will be taking place February 3rd to the 7th, and February 10th. (Filming for the first, January 29th-to-January 31st round is scheduled to wrap up today.) So keep your movie-star eyes on. In the crime roundup, new reports are out about pit bulls that repeatedly bit two people in Golden Gate Park (near 25th Avenue) on Tuesday. One of the dogs was shot on site by a police officer, and the other was found Wednesday morning. Tomorrow, Saturday, February 1, Amoeba will be hosting a free show by Social Studies at 2 PM. Remember also that Monday, February 3rd is the day Colin Meloy (Decemberist and childrens' author) and his wife Carson Ellis (illustrator extraordinaire) will be coming to the Booksmith to show off the third and final installation in the Wildwood Chronicles. Tickets here. Next week will also announce the opening of Second Act, the new incarnation of the Red Vic movie house. As part of the celebrations, Community Craft bakery will be throwing an opening celebration in the new space weekend, on Saturday the 8th at 3 PM.
