Calling All Landscape Architects
The Friends of Alvord Lake are looking for a landscape architect to help them get off the ground with an Alvord Lake reconstruction.

The latest news in the story of the efforts to improve the Alvord Lake entrance to Golden Gate Park is that the Friends of Alvord Lake are putting out an open call for landscape architects offering pro bono help to draw up ideas the community has for the area's improvement projects. The area in question, about 9 acres in total, includes mostly the oak grove between Waller and the lake, according to FOAL representative Susan Strolis. "The trees are in danger," she said, "because the ground is barren, and we're looking for someone with ideas on how to establish pathways, seating areas for temporary seating, and probably erosion control." She said the plans might also include a renovation of the stairs. But before the group can move forward to get funding, they have to be able to have drawings prepared and estimate contractors' fees. From there, Strolis said, they can figure out where to source materials and services, and apply for grants.
