Public Safety Meeting Follows Weekend Of MuggingsFlickr/dianeworth
There were at least four muggings reported in Hayes Valley this weekend, making tonight's public safety meeting particularly timely.

The SFPD reports the following recent incidents:
  • On Friday morning around 2am, a woman was walking near Octavia and Fell when she was approached by two men who pushed her against a fence, punched her in the face, and took her property. The suspects fled southbound on Octavia.
  • On Friday night just after midnight, a woman was mugged by a man on McAllister between Laguna and Buchanan. The suspect approached the victim from behind, pushed her to the ground, snatched her purse, and fled on foot.
  • On Saturday morning around 2am, a man was walking near Grove and Laguna when two men approached and "bear hugged" the man from behind. They took his cell phone and fled the scene.
  • On Sunday at 12:15pm, a woman was walking on the 100 block of Page Street when three teenagers approached. Two of them had handguns and demanded the woman's phone. She resisted at first, but eventually complied. The suspects were located later Sunday night and taken into custody.
Coincidentally, tonight the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association hosts its monthly public safety meeting. This edition will focus on how to prevent property crimes like car and cell phone thefts, and what to do when a crime occurs. The meeting takes place at 7pm at the Korean American Center (745 Buchanan).
