The bus routes on Van Ness are preparing for some major changes and you can help be a part of the decision-making process.

You might remember from two years ago that SFMTA proposed a plan called the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project. They want to focus on making Van Ness better for the 47 and 49, both of which get stuck in traffic on one of the busiest streets in the city.

Since then, the plan has gone through a few iterations and it sounds like they're ready to move forward.

SFMTA now describes the Van Ness Area corridor (between Mission and Lombard) as getting the following features: "exclusive center median transit lanes for buses, transit signal priority, high quality stations located in the median, reduced left turns, pedestrian safety enhancements and the implementation of new low-floor buses."

They're aiming for this project to be complete in 2018... which is where they need your help. SFMTA is looking for volunteers to join their Van Ness BRT Advisory Committee.

What does a committee member do? According to their website, they will "
provide input to the Van Ness Bus Rapid Transit project team by providing varied perspectives from the surrounding community and city, including feedback and guide decisions related to the design, construction and implementation of the Van Ness BRT."

The deadline for applications is this Friday (March 28). If you're interested in giving feedback on bus routes that surround the eastern side of our neighborhood, apply here
