We received tips from a lot of folks who noticed moving trucks this past weekend out on Noe Street outside the ground floor retail space at the new Icon building (2299 Market Street). Tipster Stephen G noticed a lot of cabinet fixtures being hauled into the southernmost retail space in the building on the Noe Street side. We stopped by to see if the business was open yet or if we could get any clues as to what it might be. The windowed facade was all papered over, but there were some gaps in the covering and we were able to see shelving on either side of the approximately 500sqft retail space and a wooden "bar" with a metal foot rest. These aren't really enough clues to tell us much about what will be going in except that the shelving is likely to display items for sale and the "bar" area might be for checkout and asking questions. We checked to see if there were any permit requests for the space, but none were taken out so the space being a food service location is unlikely. One tipster suggested it might be a sunglasses shop and another thought it might be a barbershop (unlikely given the photos). It's too early to tell what it might be, but we'll be happy to welcome a new business into the Castro when they are ready to unveil!
