Get your most comfortable walking shoes ready because we've got an educational exercise opportunity for you.
Do you like walking across San Francisco, learning about urban planning, the environment, and how they all come together? Then clear some time in your schedule on Saturday for this unique event.
Walk SF, an organization that serves as San Francisco's pedestrian advocacy group, is hosting an event tomorrow called Wiggle to the Woods. Amber Hasselbring, director of Nature in the City, and Elizabeth Stampe, the former director of Walk SF, will serve as your tour guides while you go on a leisurely 2.5 miles stroll through San Francisco.
Okay. We know. No stroll through San Francisco is "leisurely." It will probably be hilly. And you'll get a little sweaty. But you've totally got this. We believe in you.
The event begins at Market Street Cycles (1592 Market, one block from Van Ness Muni station), heads west toward The Wiggle, along the Panhandle, up to Buena Vista Park, through Golden Gate Park, and finally ends at Velo Rogue Cafe (798 Arguello) in the Inner Richmond for an optional snack or beer (carb up).
The whole purpose is to help you envision what Green Connections would look like. Described as a 20-year plan to help make San Francisco "safer and more pleasant to travel to parks by walking, biking, and other forms of active transportation," Green Connections is a collaborative project of the SFMTA, SF Dept. of Public Health, the Mayor's Office of Housing, and several other groups.
So... up for the challenge? Good. Just keep these things in mind:
1) Comfy shoes
2) Hills, staircases, and different elevations
3) Bring rain gear or sunglasses (one must always be prepared for every possible weather pattern)
4) Bring water and/or snacks
The group would love to get an idea for who's coming so please RSVP before you show up. The walk is free if you're a member of Walk SF or Nature in the City. For everyone else, it costs $10.
