If you like dogs, get excited: the canine event of the year is almost here.

We're talking about Dogfest in Duboce Park, of course.  This year's festivities take place in 2 weeks, on Saturday April 26th.

From 11am to 4pm, Duboce Park will be filled with dogs of all shapes and sizes, and the human companions who love them.   There will be jumpy houses and face painting for the kids, food and beverages for sale, a silent auction of great local prizes, and pet-related vendors stationed throughout the park.

And once again, there will be a dog show featuring a competition with categories like best trick and best bark.    Daniel Handler of Lemony Snicket fame returns to emcee the event.  He'll be joined by local celebrity judges including Supervisors Scott Wiener and London Breed, and Chronicle columnist Leah Garchik.  If you think your dog has prize-winning skills, you can enter the contest here.

Dogfest isn't just fun and games, though -- it also serves as a fundraiser for McKinley Elementary School.  So while you're enjoying all the local pups, you're also helping out the local kids.  Win-win.

We'll post a reminder a day or two beforehand.  For now, you can RSVP here.
