Got an idea about how to improve the neighborhood? Tonight is the night to voice your opinions about the SF Planning Department's Haight Ashbury Public Realm Plan.
We checked in with Alexis Smith of the Planning Department, who was out soliciting feedback during the Haight Ashbury Street Fair. She mentioned to us that if you can't make it to the open house tonight, you're welcome to send her photos of things you see in other neighborhoods around the city that you think the Haight should adapt (her contact info is over here). The Haight-Ashbury Public Realm Plan will develop a community-supported vision for the neighborhood’s streets, sidewalks, and public places ... New streetscape designs, parking and circulation plan, and a plan for pedestrian amenities like lighting and signage will make the streets more safe, comfortable, and efficient for all users, whether they walk, bicycle, use transit, or drive, and will promote the streets as a place for vibrant street life and activity.
She also clarified the process from here on out:
1) Collect ideas; order priorities based on feedback.2) Come up with an action plan for Haight Street; secure funding based on that plan.3) Lock down contractors to carry out said action plan; adjust plan based on projected cost according to contractors.4) Implement.
Currently they're in stage 1, so the more feedback they get tonight from you, the smoother the rest of the steps will go.
We'll see you tonight: 6pm-8pm at the Park Branch Library.
