Safety has been top-of-mind in the neighborhood of late, with a safety walk through the neighborhood and a traffic safety meeting both taking place late last month.
Tonight, you'll be able to continue the discussion at a public safety meeting hosted by the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association. At 7pm at the Korean American Center (745 Buchanan), meet San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón, who's among eight people from seven city departments being honored for their role in public safety in Hayes Valley and the Western Addition. There'll also be a food element called "A Taste of Hayes," which will feature some food from around the neighborhood.
Tomorrow night, the safety-themed fun continues with the SFPD's annual community celebration National Night Out, which takes place at locations across the city (and nation) on Tuesday.
From 5:30pm-7:30pm tomorrow, join SFPD's Northern Station at the Ella Hill Community Center (1050 McAllister) for an evening of kid-friendly fun, food and entertainment. There will be resource tables set up, and the evening will feature an opportunity to Zumba with cops. Think about it.
Bill Dickenson of the Hayes Valley Social Club is also planning on hosting an event tomorrow night, which will be a casual get-together of neighbors in the spirit of National Night Out. He says he wants to go back to the good old days "when neighbors used to communicate with each other and wave on the street."
Bill invites neighbors to swing by Muka from 7pm-11pm tomorrow night for a meet and greet. Though there's no set agenda, he says it's all about meeting neighbors and getting a better sense of community going in the neighborhood.
So there you have it: three events in two days, all aimed at fostering safety and community involvement in the neighborhood.
