First, today is Small Business Saturday, the shop-local tonic to Black Friday, sponsored by American Express, and hosted at independent businesses around the country. Expect to see shoppers out in force.
In crime and mayhem, Paul LaFontaine reported on Nextdoor Thursday morning that he called the SFPD at 3:30 am to report that someone from a 13-person homeless camp in Buena Vista Park was screaming and smashing a car with a bicycle frame. The incident was on the first block of Buena Vista Avenue West, between Haight and Waller. According to his report of the incident the call eventually resulted in an arrest.

Feeling historic? The San Francisco Public Library's San Francisco History Center now has an online archive of the Haight Ashbury Ink Link from 1967. The Ink Link was the newsletter of the Haight Ashbury Neighborhood Council, and offers a detailed view into neighborhood life in 1967. For example: city health officials were making threats of bubonic plague outbreaks, and the Panhandle Park was converted into a makeshift parking lot to make shopping on Haight Street easier.

In future-news, on Tuesday, December 9, at 6 pm in Saint Agnes Church at 1025 Masonic, the Urban School is holding a neighborhood meeting to discuss plans for the proposed expansion into the parking lot of the Saint Agnes Parish. Architects of the proposed expansion will be at the meeting. New plans for the building will be unveiled at the meeting, and representatives of the church and the Urban School will be available to answer questions about the work.

Meanwhile, stay dry and dust off your holiday lists. See you out there.
