While it’s going to be a rainy, wet weekend, that doesn’t mean you have to be stuck at home: there are plenty of things to do in the Castro this weekend, many of which are indoors and out of the rain.
SF Sketchfest
As we noted last month, the 14th Annual SF SketchFest is upon us, and it continues this weekend in the Castro with some great events. Here are some of the events taking place at the Castro Theatre:
Tonight (Friday, Feb. 6th): Great Scott! Though the Tribute to “Weird Al” Yankovic is sold out, tickets are still available for the late-night Tribute to Christopher Lloyd, which will include a 30th anniversary screening of ‘Back to the Future'. Make sure you get there early to take a picture with Doc Brown’s DeLorean.
Saturday, Feb. 7th: From 4:20-6:35pm, catch Benson Movie Interruption: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which is sure to be a funny late afternoon at the expense of Robert Pattison, Kristen Stewart and the rest of the Twilight cast (Tickets: $20). Then, at 7:30pm, catch the Tribute to ‘VEEP’ with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and cast (Tickets: $40).
Sunday, Feb. 8th: Didn’t get enough laughs last night and you can stand sitting through even more Twilight? End the suspense with Benson Movie Interruption: Breaking Dawn Part 2 from 4:20pm-6:35pm. (Tickets: $25.)
SF Beer Week
The SF Beer Week Opening Gala at Fort Funston has been sold out for weeks, but with close to 400 events taking place in San Francisco alone, there are plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy some delicious beer around town. We surveyed some of your neighborhood options earlier today, but here's the rundown on more happening this weekend.
Saturday, Feb. 7th: Try four different house made sours (Aloha Pineapple, Mango-A-Go-Go, Razzmatazz and Strawberries Wild) at Cerveceria de MateVeza's “Jamba Brews and Fruity Sours: Tropical Tap Takeover” from 12pm-11pm, hit Lucky 13's “Dog Day Afternoon” for cider and canine companionship from 4pm-10pm, then head over to Brewcade's “House Party” from 9pm-11:30pm to enjoy beer from Stillwater Artisanal Ales while playing arcade games.
Sunday, Feb. 8th: Dante’s Table will be running a “Holy Craft Meet the Brewers” event from 11am-5pm. Join the staff at Dante’s Table and local Brewery Holy Craft for a variety of nosh and goodies paired with the beers on tap.
Monday, Feb. 9th: Cerveceria de MateVeza “Black Sands Brewery Pop Up”, noon-10pm. Head back to Cerveceria and meet the brewers of Black Sands as they take over brewing their own recipes.
Imperial Council Voting
Voting for the 50th anniversary of Imperial Council of San Francisco takes place this Saturday followed by coronation on February 14th. Founded by José Sarria in 1965, the Imperial Council participates in a variety of events to raise money in support of other diverse community based organizations that do not discriminate based upon race, gender, sexual orientation, religion or ethnic background. The candidates this year for Empress are Khmera Rouge and Deena Cartier. Running unopposed for Emperor this year is Kevin Lisle.
Only current residents of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties are eligible to vote. Bring a valid photo ID. Voting Info is as follows:
- Project Open Hand (730 Polk): 10am-4pm
- Powerhouse Bar (1347 Folsom): 11am-5pm
- Castro Muni Station (Castro/Market): Noon-6pm
Girl Scout Cookies
This year, the Girl Scouts have moved into the 21st century! You can now order your cookies online, too. But come on, where’s the fun in that? Go out and pick up a few boxes of cookies in support of your local Girl Scout Troop, and don't forget to enjoy this rainy weekend to the fullest.
