We've got music, art, make-up, skateboards, corn dogs, and lots of beer on the local calendar this weekend. Here's what's on tap.
First, today is the official start of SF Beer Week, which runs through the 15th. A number of local bars, including Noc Noc, Molotov's, Danny Coyle's, and The Page will be participating with special events. Check the schedule for details.
One Lower Haight joint that's getting especially creative for the event is Memphis Minnie's (576 Haight), which is all about corn dogs this weekend. Specifically, the restaurant will be offering a special menu item: Crunchy Bacon-Wrapped Smoked Kosher Beef Corn Dogs. Also on the menu will be craft beers from Fort Point Beer Company, taking over the taps for all of Beer Week. The corn dogs will be available today through Sunday, while supplies last.
And if you'd like a taste of beery things to come, venture beyond the neighborhood (and beyond the weekend) to Cerveceria de MateVeza (18th and Church) on Monday, and sample the first official brew from upcoming Lower Haight brewery Black Sands. The Son of Man Black IPA is "a stormy combination of roasted and chocolate malts," in Black Sands' words. It'll be tapped sometime on Monday (Cerveceria opens at noon), and will be available until it runs out.
In other weekend news...
Tonight, Underground SF (424 Haight) will be the scene of We Are Monsters, its monthly First Friday event. Enjoy music by DJs Solar, Jason Greer, and Mozhgan, plus laser effects by Errol Valentino, a.k.a. the Visual Wizard. The fun starts at 10pm.
On Saturday afternoon, swing by Vinyl Dreams (593 Haight) for the second edition of Thru The Window. It's a free showcase of house and techno music from DJ/producers Steve Mizek and Olin of Chicago's Argot/Tasteful Nudes record label, and resident duo EULA. The event runs from 3pm to 7pm; beverages will be served.
Saturday from 7pm to 8:30pm, On Mars Salon (210 Fillmore) is hosting a Spring 2015 Hair, Fashion, & Make-Up Workshop. There will be demos of romantic hair styles, sultry make-up, and elegant fashion tips for ladies, plus grooming tips for gents. Reservations are $20, and space is limited, so call the salon (415-690-3057) to sign up.
Saturday from 7pm to 11pm , DSF (520 Haight) hosts a launch party for a new SF-based company called Bearsloth Skateboards. Bearsloth makes "the freshest illustrated skate decks on the market," they say. Saturday's party will feature drinks, music, a t-shirt raffle, and the unveiling of Bearsloth's new line.
At 9pm Saturday, return to Underground SF for the monthly party that is Push The Feeling. There will be DJ sets from Jeffrey Brodsky (the drummer from YACHT) and local DJ Eug, plus residents YR SKULL and epicsauce DJs. As usual, this one's 21+, and $5 before 10pm with RSVP ($8 after).
And on Sunday, if you're not resting, why not catch up on some of the local art shows up around the neighborhood?
The Harvey Milk Photo Center (50 Scott) has Imogen Cunningham's photos from Paris in the '60s up through the end of February.
Glass Key Photo (442 Haight) is still showing the extended San Francisco Found exhibit, featuring mid-century snapshots from around the city.
Fifty24SF (218 Fillmore) has the Sam Flores show "A Light in the Darkness," which went up during the last Art Walk and will be on display through February.
And finally, Vinyl (359 Divisadero) has a collection of photo portraits hanging by frequent Hoodline collaborator Souls of Society.
There you have it—more than a dozen ways to enjoy your weekend. Make it a good one.
