Castro Weekend Events: Big Top, Bros, And 'Martyrs And Myths'

It’s Friday, and we’ve got another weekend of great weather ahead for us in San Francisco. If you’re looking for a few things to add to your calendar this weekend, we’ve got a few suggestions for you. (Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead an hour before you go to bed Saturday night, or else you’ll be getting up to a late start Sunday morning.)

Friday, March 6th

Magnet Art Opening

Terry Furry’s ‘Martyrs and Myths' large scale paintings and sculpture assemblage "examines the powerful archetype, exploring the embodiment of strength and infallibility and how it often conceals a reality of fragility, isolation and sensitivity." (Magnet, 4122 18th St., 8-10pm, Free)

Midnites For Maniacs at the Castro Theater
Academy of Art University Film History teacher Jesse Hawthorne Ficks hosts ‘Midnites For Maniacs’ tonight. At this month’s ‘Feed Me’ double feature, catch Frank Oz’s adaptation of the Broadway Musical ‘Little Shop Of Horrors: Director’s Cut’ starring Rick Moranis with a new special 23-minute ending that promises to be a whole lot darker. Stick around for the second film, David Cronenberg’s eXistenZ, later tonight. (Castro Theatre, 429 Castro St., 7:20pm, $12)

Saturday, March 7th

Buena Vista Park Volunteer Workday
For all you green thumbs out there, head on over to Buena Vista Park Saturday morning for the monthly workdayMake sure you wear sturdy shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt and bring gloves if you have them (Rec and Park will provide them if you don’t). The group will meet next to the Children’s Playground above Buena Vista West at Waller St. (Buena Vista Park, Buena Vista West at Waller St., 9am)

Hard French 5th  Anniversary
Spend Saturday afternoon out on the patio at El Rio in the Mission for ‘Happy Birthday Hard French.' Enjoy infamous the "heavy dancing, heavy cruising" soul music dance party, and snag the free barbecue while it lasts. (El Rio, 3158 Mission St., 2pm, $8)

Sunday, March 8th

Mr. Marina at Hi Tops
The 2015 Mr. Marina Contest is underway and contestant Justin Waterman would like you to join him for "Mr. Marina Bros Take Over Hi Tops" as he continues his quest to become this year's Mr. Marina. All proceeds benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. (Hi Tops, 2247 Market St)

Big Top at Beaux
Recently awarded The Nitey for ‘Best Gay Dance Club’ for the 2nd year in a row, Sister Roma and Juanita More! join forces to host Big Top: Joshua J’s Birthday Bash at Beaux. Expect a festive Sunday night full of drag performances, performers and special guests all night long. (Beaux, 2344 Market St.)
