Upper Haight First Thursdays Event Gains MomentumPhoto: Amy Stephenson / Hoodline

Last month, we let you know that the Haight's First Thursdays event was back after a brief holiday hiatus.

The idea, as originally proposed by Adam Brodner of Goorin Bros., to showcase what the Haight, a popular tourist destination, has to offer local residents in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Food, drink and retail specials from local merchants, as well as music and art, are planned for the ongoing monthly event.

Since we last updated you in February, the event has gained momentum, and the list of merchants participating has expanded. Here's who's doing what between 5pm and 7pm this coming Thursday, April 2nd:

Jammin' on Haight, 1400 Haight,  An Evening With Stanley Mouse

Rock Artist and bay area native Stanley Mouse will be at Jammin' on Haight from 5-7pm to sell art, chat, and sign merchandise. You probably know Stanley Mouse as the artist behind the Grateful Dead's iconic skeleton-and-roses motif. IN fact, Mouse did their first eight album covers, and has also done art for The Family Dog, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Jimi Hendrix, Journey, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and Blind Faith.

The Red Victorian, 1665 Haight, Horia Manolache presents: The Prince and the Pauper Exhibit

Bay Area photographer and friend of the Red Vic Horia Manolache has spent two years photographing the homeless and learning their stories. "This thought led me to imagine what it would be like to show them as successful people, depicted as what they dreamed to be," he says.

"Some of them followed the path created by society and others created their own path. I wanted to explore what brought them here and how would they look if life had led them down a different path? My series of photos may offer some answers to these questions."

From 5-7pm this Thursday, Manolache will display eight diptych-style pieces he's completed throughout the project to help raise money for the homeless. Two-thirds of the money raised will be donated to the people in the photographs. The Red Vic will also donate 50 percent of the event proceeds to Taking it to the Streets as the organization continues to expand.

The weather on Thursday is supposed to be gorgeous, so take a stroll, have a drink, and support the neighborhood.
