Kate’s Kitchen Now Serving Up Live Music With DinnerPhoto via Sankara Gibbs

Kate’s Kitchen launched a new dinner menu a year ago, and things are going so well that the restaurant is now offering live music and happy hour specials, too.

Happy “hour” is a bit of a misnomer, actually, because it goes from 5pm to 9pm, which is basically all night. But the deals are real: For just $10, you get a burger with fries, or fried chicken with mashed potatoes and red beans, plus a draft beer—a deal which owner Hasan Khader tells us has been a very popular order.

People love the fried chicken so much they’re ordering it to be delivered all over the city, Khader says, but it’s the Friday night performances by jazz combo The Suns of Beaches that's really packing them in at Kate’s. “Families are coming in, they’re singing and dancing. It’s getting more and more crowded.” Khader says, telling dinner service has been busier than he ever expected.

Having music every Friday night worked out so well that singer/songwriter Joshua Cook, formerly of local rock-n-soul group The Soft White Sixties, is taking over Tuesday nights. His first show was a solo acoustic performance this past Tuesday. “I can’t believe how good it was,” Khader says.

Check out a video of Cook playing with his band, The Key of Now, to get a feel for the vibe:

If you haven't yet stopped by, Kate’s Kitchen (417 Haight St.) is open for dinner Tuesday-Thursday from 5pm-9pm, and Friday and Saturday from 5pm-10pm. Music starts at 7pm on Tuesdays and Fridays. Check Kate’s Kitchen's website for daytime hours.

And, if you're wondering about future pop-ups at Kate's Kitchen following the South African "PoyKee Pop-Up Dinner" in February, stay tuned.
