While Bay To Breakers may be the only thing on many people's minds this weekend, there's still going to be plenty to do in the Castro. Whether you're looking to fully participate in the event or are looking to escape it, we've got a few ideas of events you should check out.

Friday, May 15th

Art
Opening tonight at 7pm in the front gallery at the GLBT History Museum is collection of drawings, paintings and sculptures entitled "30 Years of Collecting Art That Tells Our Stories." Guest curated by Elisabeth Cornu, this exhibit looks at the "tumultuous period in local LGBT liberation movement: the 1960s to the 1990s."

Film
The Academy of Art University takes over the Castro Theatre Friday night at 7pm for its 2015 Media Awards: The Future Is In Motion. Seating is on first come, first served basis for this event where you can "watch the next generation of creative artists showcase their talent before distinguished guests and the campus community."

Saturday, May 16th

Volunteer
Join the Friends of Duboce Park on Saturday for "Duboce Park Volunteer Day" from 10am to noon. Whether you can volunteer for the whole day or just for half an hour, any help is appreciated. Supervised by Rec & Park gardeners, all supplies, tools and gloves will be provided, so head on over to Duboce Park to help out and meet your neighbors.

Drag
Always wanted to dress in drag but never had the right occasion to do it or felt to stressed about getting it right? We've got the perfect event for you. The
6th Annual 'Birthdays Are A Drag' AIDS Lifecycle Fundraiser benefiting the SF AIDS Foundation takes place Saturday at 9:30pm at the Lookout. So "dust off those 6-inch pumps, steam the frock, and back-comb that busted wig, because it's a night of drag in the city." Is it your first time in drag? Well here's what they suggest: "Go to the thrift store and buy a cheap moo-moo frock, five dollar wig and work it!"

Sunday, May 17th

Double Feature
Avoid everything about the Bay to Breakers by spending the day at the Castro Theatre for an Orsen Welles double feature. Start off your Sunday watching the classic Orsen Welles film "Touch of Evil" starring Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh (shows at 4:30pm and 8:30pm).  This film is famously known for its three-and-a-half minute opening shot without any cuts. "Touch of Evil" is followed by the 2014 Chuck Workman documentary "Magician: The Astonishing Life and Work of Orsen Welles," which looks at the "remarkable genius of Orson Welles on the eve of his centenary—the enigma of his career as a Hollywood star, a Hollywood director (for some a Hollywood failure) and a crucially important independent filmmaker." (Show is at 6:40pm.)

After Party
Didn't get enough of the Bay To Breakers fun and still looking for more? Or did you avoid it entirely and feel it's finally safe to go out? Then head on over to the Lookout for "Jock Sundays hosted by Angels Softball" for some leftover B2B fun going at the weekly party.
