A variety of classes, performances, and community gatherings are in store for the neighborhood this weekend. Here are a few of our suggestions:

Saturday

Knitting Circle

Grab your needles and yarn and head down to SF Public Library’s Sunset Branch at 10:15 a.m. for their weekend knitting circle. Knitters and crocheters of all ages and levels are welcome to this 2-hour gathering, which meets every other Saturday. BYO supplies. For more info, ask a librarian, or call 415-355-2808.

Gardening Classes

Garden for the Environment offers two classes this Saturday, both at 1:00 p.m. “Ask the Experts: Organic Gardening Tour” is free, thanks to the SF Public Utilities Commission. You’ll learn how to care for your plants naturally, without chemicals or pesticides.

At “The Basics of Fruit Tree Care,” GFE gardeners will teach you how to plant, fertilize, irrigate, and care for your apple, pear, and plum trees. The class is geared toward beginners, but they’ll answer your advanced questions too. It’s $25, or $15 if you’re a GFE member.

Last Weekend for Botticelli to Braque at the de Young

This weekend’s your last chance to see the Botticelli to Braque exhibit at the de Young museum. The collection also features pieces from Velázquez, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Sir Henry Raeburn, Frederic Edwin Church, Monet, Gauguin, Seurat, and Picasso.

While you’re there, you may also want to check out Janet Delaney’s photo exhibition, "South of Market," documenting the neighborhood’s dramatic change during the 1970s and ‘80s.

Guilty Pleasures at Circus Center

Watch Circus Center performers soar, juggle, and contort their way through Danté’s nine circles of hell at “Guilty as Sin: A Circus in Nine Rings” Saturday night, 7:30. From their website: “Come witness the sinful journey of two clownish pilgrims as they encounter demonic acrobats, seductively alluring aerialists, and tortured jugglers.” Tickets are between $10 and $25, and you can purchase them here

Armenian Song and Dance

The theme for this weekend’s free Sunday concert in the park with the Golden Gate Park Band is Armenian Singing and Dancing, in celebration of Armenian Independence Day. The concert’s free as always, and starts at 1:00 p.m. at Spreckles Temple of Music in Golden Gate Park.

Juggling Club

If you didn’t get your circus fill Saturday night, head back over to Circus Center Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for Juggling Club. From their website: “Collaborate in a fun, low-pressure environment with our experienced instructor. Bring your friends and play with our juggling toys: scarves, balls, feathers, clubs, and more. All levels are welcome in this FREE club!” All ages over 8 are welcome too, though parents must accompany children under 15, and sign a release for children under 18. RSVP here (required).

The book is “the seriously, seriously funny roller-coaster ride of sex and violence that Aleksandar Hemon has long promised.” The event’s free, and Facebook RSVPs are encouraged.
