Tonight Rare Device will be launching a show by local San Francisco artist Emily Proud, titled Bathtub. The show will run through July 6th, but tonight offers a great opportunity to meet the artist in person, and mingle with your neighbors.

Emily was born and raised in San Francisco, and currently resides in the Mission. This is the second time she's exhibited her work at Rare Device: the first time was in a group show titled California Printed back in January of 2014. This month she'll be featuring her work in a solo show.

In an interview with Rare Device, Emily says she's influenced by landscape, scenes from domestic life, California culture and a sense of nostalgia.

A former illustrator, Emily has been painting full-time for three years, and admits that she's always learning. "No matter how much I study watercolor, there will always be ways the paint behaves that I cannot control and those surprises keep it interesting," she says.

In this series Emily said she drew inspiration from "the bathtub and things floating listlessly in its dreamy froth. You know those foam bathtub toys for children? I had this image in my mind of how they all float out to the edges of the water in clusters and replicated that in the composition. Each painting in the show has a similar story given away by their titles and I would say they all reflect playful, feel-good experiences."

Rare Device runs a rotating curation of shows in their space, such as the work of Yina Kim, a group show titled Dead of Winter, and a series of work by local Instagrammers

Tonight's opening will run from 6-9pm at Rare Device on Divisadero Street, and refreshments will be served. Stay in the loop with the event's Facebook page
