Once again, we have a list of recent crimes and injuries in the Financial District and North Beach along with nearby neighborhoods, as reported by SFPD sources. Though not meant to be comprehensive, it should serve as a brief snapshot of recent activity to help locals stay informed. We'll also occasionally include snippets from SFPD Central Station Capt. David Lazar's newsletter.

Any driver who's ever been stuck at an intersection due to a stubborn motorist will like this story: In this week's SFPD Central Station newsletter, Capt. Lazar writes:

"Every Officer assigned to Central Station is conducting traffic enforcement and I am no exception. Yesterday, while on my way to a meeting in the Financial District, a motorist was holding up traffic, approximately 10 cars, at Broadway and Stockton. This person was determined on making a right turn from the left lane and the right lane was not letting her turn. I happened to be one of the 10 cars held up so she received a citation from me."

In other news, a major story this week was the cable car operator who was struck by a motorcyclist near Taylor and Francisco streets at 10:27pm June 11th. The cable car operator is in critical condition with a fractured skull, and the motorcyclist was arrested for felony drunk driving. Read the full report.

In yet another hot prowl, a 31-year-old man entered a 23-year-old woman's residence through a window at 5:15am June 6th on the 1400 block of Clay Street. The woman woke up to see her door open and a man standing on her balcony. She screamed, and the man fled down the stairs and into the courtyard with bags, headphones and sunglasses taken from the victim. The woman called 911 and two of the responding officers captured the suspect in the victim’s garage and arrested him.

A suspect grabbed an iPhone out of a woman's hand at around 7:30pm June 6th on the 1600 block of Stockton Street. She struggled to no avail. Ping Yuen Housing Officers Uang and Nguyen pulled over a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle on the 500 block of Francisco and took the suspect into custody.

At 1:18am June 7th at Chestnut and Columbus, a 29-year-old man was standing outside a bar when a man stabbed him in the left thigh with a knife and walked away. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was uncooperative.

A man about 25–30 years old stole candy from a store in the 200 block of Sutter Street at 3:08pm June 7th and pushed a 34-year-old male employee with force, then fled on foot.

Officers responded to the 800 block of Geary around 8:30am June 8th after getting reports of a man who climbed up a fire escape and into the building. Several officers from Central Station responded and surrounded the building where Officers Fahey, Duffield, Cody and Jiminez were involved in taking the suspect into custody.

An aggravated assault occurred at 5pm June 9th in the 2200 block of Taylor Street when a 75-year-old man hit a 69-year-old woman with a broomstick handle for no known reason while she was cleaning the hallway. The woman was taken to St. Mary's Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries, including a bruise on the back, stomach and rib area.

A man, about 30–35 years old, stole two sandwiches from a store in the 2600 block of Mason Street at 9pm June 9th. When he entered the store, the victim, a 34-year-old man, recognized him from previous thefts from the store and told the man to put the items back. The suspect then pulled out a small baseball bat, threatened the victim, punched him and pushed him to the ground, causing non-life-threatening injuries, then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
