Hoodline recently received a tweet asking us to look into an enigmatic CVS project near Union Square:
@HL_FiDi Any idea what's happening with the Stockton/Sutter CVS? Project seems halted.

CVS signage is up on the building's facade, but the windows are indeed still papered over. So, we checked into it.
We called the builder whose signs and business cards are posted on the windows, but they couldn't comment and told us to call CVS. After multiple calls and emails, we got this answer from CVS spokesman Michael DeAngelis:
"While we have completed the interior work for our new store, we have rescheduled the opening to the first half of 2016 due to electrical upgrades that need to be completed by the utility service. Those upgrades are expected to be completed early next year. We look forward to begin serving the Union Square community at that time."

However, we contacted Nick Smith at PG&E and he seemed puzzled by CVS' response:
"You may want to reconnect with your contact at CVS for further clarification of their comment, as there are no PG&E maintenance issues connected with the project. PG&E crews have worked safely and on schedule to install the electrical equipment needed for this new business and customer’s requested service upgrade. Once all of the proper paperwork is received from the customer, we are happy to schedule connection of service.”
We reached back out to DeAngelis for further clarification and he wrote, "[W]e stand by our previous comment and have nothing further to add." So, though inquiring minds may want to know, the best we can tell you is that the project is on track for an early 2016 opening, with some electrical ambiguity along the way.
CVS has 7,375 stores in 42 states, according to its website, with 13 in San Francisco (not counting this location). If you're in need of a local CVS to serve your needs in the meantime, there are two others just blocks away from this new store, at 581 Market and 731 Market.
