Last month, we reported on Richie Nakano's return to Wing Wings for a Tex-Mex pop-up, three months after he departed the Mission's Hapa Ramen. Nakano is back at Wing Wings tonight, and this time, he's serving up French bread pizza.
The menu will be pretty simple: cheese, pepperoni and a third, less traditional offering (Nakano says some Hapa ingredients may reappear). All the french bread will come from Pinkie's Bakery, and side salads will be available. Everything will run about $5 or $6.
According to Nakano, Tex-Mex and French bread pizza are part of a monthly succession of casual pop-ups he and Wing Wings owner Christian Ciscle will host.
"We've been wanting to do pop-ups like this for a while," Nakano said. "We're trying to bring back fun, simple food—like the stuff we ate as kids. Our only rule is that everything stays affordable ... and delicious, of course."
Nakano and Ciscle have been promoting these pop-ups on social media with the hashtag "#idk"—poking fun at the many restaurants that go by acronyms, like BDK, AQ and SPQR.
The pair will be whipping up pizzas at 422 Haight from 6-10 pm. Judging by the popularity of the pair's last joint venture, we suggest showing up early.
