With September comes a full lineup of weekend events. But first, let's look back on the week that was.
We took a moment to meet the young folks behind Tenderloin Leadership Community, a year-old program that helps transitional age youth with a history of homelessness connect with each other and neighborhood services. The group is actively recruiting young people to get involved in their service learning projects.
Earlier this week we also examined a new "super smack" that hit the streets this summer. The Central City Extra reports that its "100 times more powerful than morphine and 30 to 50 times more than heroin" and the Department of Health is struggling to keep pace with overdoses as a result.
Now, let's talk about the weekend.
Those with a soft spot for vinyl records won't want to miss RS94109's weekend-long benefit. The Larkin Street shop closed in May for renovations, but announced this week that funds ran short and they're currently without key furnishings: record racks, furniture, listening stations and a proper DJ booth. From 4pm to midnight today, and noon-midnight Saturday and Sunday, the public is welcome to stop by to listen to 10-15 live DJs each day, peruse the nearly-complete revamped space and chip in a few bucks.
Read on for more, plus an eclectic selection of events happening around the neighborhood this weekend.

Freeman’s underwater work presents humanity in its most graceful form, floating in harmonious tranquility. Karto’s subjects are equally mesmerizing, often floating in clouds and while they echo this same tranquility at times, they also evoke haunting, tragic and ominous qualities."
