Had a busy week and missed some of the stories we covered? Here's your chance to catch up with everything that's been going on in the Castro.
Over the weekend, we profiled Gary Weiss of IXIA, which has been creating gorgeous window displays in the Castro for 32 years. The work that goes into creating these sculptural, unusual and unexpected works of art is considerable.
We also caught up with Artís Coffee's Alex Lowe to find out what he has planned. for the coffee shop's new Castro location, in the former Body Shop. While the neighborhood has no end of places to get coffee, many commenters in the neighborhood seemed to be excited about this new spot. "Stop hating coffee and cafe culture," one wrote. "It's having a positive impact on the neighborhood."
In more coffee news, the new location of Philz Coffee has installed its outdoor seating, and finished painting the front of the store. What do you think of the new location so far?
Over in Duboce Triangle, a rent war is flaring up between an entrenched tenant and a building's owners. The tenant, a photographer, says that the new owners of the home in which he pays $365/month for a two-bedroom unit haven't offered him enough money to vacate the premises. But the owners argue that he's been violating their privacy, protesting where they work, releasing their cell phone numbers, and putting their pictures on banners.
The Medical Examiner's office has released its findings on the death of 55-year-old drag performer Arthur "Arturo" Galster, who specialized in portraying Patsy Cline. Galster died last August, the day after he was in an altercation in Dolores Park. The ME's office said the incident had nothing to do with Galster's death; he died of "acute morphine toxicity" and hypertension.
On a happier note, yesterday was Back To The Future Day, and droves of fans descended on the Castro Theatre for comedian Doug Benson's sold-out screening/mocking of Back To The Future Part II. Many of people in the audience showed up in costume as Doc Brown and Marty McFly.

Al Pacino’s subtle transformation from seemingly reluctant successor to vengeful, paranoid tyrant is one of cinema’s most chilling character arcs. Serpico, Pacino is at his most compelling in this gritty drama of the real-life New York City police detective who blew the lid off the pervasive corruption in the NYPD, and became a pariah in his own department for his trouble."
