It's time for another need-to-know roundup of the latest SoMa news and upcoming events ahead.
Another week, another new development proposal for Central SoMa. The latest: Boston Properties is hoping to construct a 1.1-million-square-foot office complex across a full block of Harrison Street from Third to Fourth (across from Whole Foods). The building's height would range from 65-feet-tall to 240-feet-tall, and include 907,300 square feet of office space, 9,900 square feet of retail, 15,600 square feet of public open space and 53,6000 square feet of “flexible space," which could be zoned for artists or manufacturing.
Of the initial design (by HOK), a Boston Properties representative told the SF Business Times, "We want the project to reflect the Central SoMa neighborhood, and have it not be a downtown office building or suburban office park from an architectural perspective." Do you think they hit the mark?

Speaking of development, we sat down with the executive director of United Playaz — the neighborhood's long-standing violence prevention nonprofit that recently acquired its Howard Street youth clubhouse — to discuss the key to avoiding displacement, and how changes across the neighborhood have affected the organization.
One of Central SoMa's few public spaces — Gene Friend Recreation Center — is set to receive a complete revamp, and tonight's your chance to see early designs and share your feedback with Rec & Parks and the San Francisco Parks Alliance before the plans are finalized this fall. The meeting is 6-8pm at the recreation center.
Also this week, a man was left in life-threatening condition after getting dragged under a semi truck at Fremont & Howard; Sup. Jane Kim called for an expansion of the Pit Stop public toilet program; we stopped in at longtime SoMa restaurant Triptych; and we let you know of a new farmers market pop-up near the ballpark.
Over in Rincon Hill, the area's newly formed Community Benefit District is ramping up with a search for an executive director. Interested? Here's the job description.
If you missed last weekend's Folsom Street Fair, you can relive the moment with our selection of photos from the day here, courtesy of photographer Beth Thomas.
Finally, let's talk food: Zagat reports that quail is huge this fall. And SoMa neighbors don't have to go far to find a worthy bite of the state's official bird: RN74 has a new executive chef and new Grilled Quail Crepinette on the menu.
Now that you're all caught up, here are a few activities to keep you busy this weekend:
