Fillmore has a new pizza and Italian food spot in Academy Bar & Kitchen, which debuted last week in the former Pizza Inferno space at 1800 Fillmore St. As The New Fillmore reports, the new restaurant is the brainchild of Nicholas Pallone, who previously worked for four years as the executive chef of nearby Florio and partially funded his new venture on Kickstarter.
Pallone, who has Italian-American roots, is serving a menu of Italian-inspired dishes like roasted broccolini with anchovies and asiago, farro with cherry tomatoes and squash blossoms, and blackened short ribs. Neapolitan-style pizza is a specialty, with interesting pie toppings like walnut-arugula pesto or prosciutto and pecorino. The restaurant also boasts a 25-tap craft beer list, and is open late: until 10pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends.
