The Powell Street Safety and Sidewalk Improvement Pilot launched today, closing Powell between Geary and Ellis streets (the 100-200 blocks) to most traffic for 18 months. The lanes are now painted red to denote “transit only” lanes, with access restricted to Muni vehicles, Paratransit and color-schemed taxicabs and vehicles with commercial license plates.
