It may be getting colder, with shorter days and gloomy weather, but there's plenty to be excited about as December kicks off. Grab an umbrella from Walgreens, window insulation or a space heater from Cliff's Variety, or some fresh underwear from Body or Hot Cookie for the upcoming Santa Skivvies Run, and you'll be set to enjoy your month ahead.
Over Thanksgiving weekend, we chatted with Andrea Aiello, a local do-gooder nominee, about her history in and love of the neighborhood. Her work with Castro/Upper Market CBD has paid off recently with some other stories, including the sprucing up of the neighborhood with lighting and a wreath at Jane Warner Plaza, and the clean sidewalk slate for Tuesday's Inscribe event during World AIDS Day.
We also enjoyed a song with local musician Francisco Fernandez through our "Souls Of" series, learned of a possible new "Masons" food option along Castro Street, and saw another AIDS Day event, the guerilla-style art/statistics projection piece, RADIANT PRESENCE.
It wasn't all warm and fuzzy news, though as we learned that our local celebrity "Hot Cop of the Castro", aka Christopher Kohrs, was arrested for a hit-and-run in North Beach. The swooning appears to be at an end after this unfortunate news.
And now, on to events coming up for the remainder of the week and into the weekend. Will you snag your tickets to a Golden Girls Christmas Episode show, attend the Menorah Lighting Party or check out the Man Candy gallery opening at Magnet, complete with works made out of sugary sweets? Browse your upcoming events below as you count down the hours to the end of your workday.
