While the neighborhood has been emptying out all week, happenings haven't ceased.
For starters, news hit that the Old Mint will come back to life in early 2016. But the major restoration project for the historic landmark circa 1894 is still years off.
Just around the corner, new plans surfaced to raze the SRO at 93 Sixth St. (at Mission) in favor of an eight-story, 105-room tourist hotel with ground-floor retail. According to Socket Site, the property owner plans to move the existing residences to the Raman Hotel at 1011-1019 Howard St., but that might not fly with the City given that that hotel is already fully-occupied by residents through the Tenderloin Housing Clinic.

On the crime and safety front, a police officer was sent to the hospital yesterday after being struck by a van at Seventh and Harrison streets, snarling morning traffic. We also heard from a number of readers with concerns about a series of recent fires around Harrison and 13th/Division, a popular spot for homeless encampments.
Just in time to lure holiday visitors, Fogo de Chão and Volta opened their doors. And for those who haven't heard, the popular food-truck Bacon Bacon will open a brick-and-mortar joint near the ballpark late next month.
Finally, this weekend. There's quite an eclectic mix of events on tap for the holiday weekend.
For those who aren't celebrating Christmas tomorrow, the Contemporary Jewish Museum is hosting its annual free-admission day. Or, for a less wholesome afternoon, Wicked Grounds will have Chinese food, films, and kink, of course.
From gothic dance music at DNA Lounge to Tim Burton-inspired drag performances at Oasis, there are plenty of options for Christmas Day after-partiers as well.
Have an event you'd like to see featured on Hoodline? Don't hesitate to share it with us here. In the meantime, have a wonderful holiday weekend.
