Got an event you want the neighborhood to know about? To be included in our next Tenderloin weekly roundup, please fill out the form at this link.

The spotlight's been on the Tenderloin's Vietnamese restaurants this week, with the Chronicle's coverage of Ha Nam Ninh's ongoing woes. (It will reopen tonight, so stop by to support the struggling family-owned business.)

Beyond Chron took issue with the Chron's story, titled "Tenderloin’s Vietnamese restaurant core faces extinction." "The truth is that the Tenderloin has maintained a surprisingly large number of Vietnamese restaurants despite the steady shrinking of the neighborhood’s Southeast Asian population," wrote Randy Shaw in his counterargument. "Little Saigon turned a corner in 2015. And its future has never been brighter."

Crime news is rarely a cakewalk, and this week's crime recap, replete with the usual robberies, plus some odder incidents, was no exception. Add to that recent allegations of police misconduct and racism over the course of a Tenderloin drug sting, and we've got a bad taste in our mouths.

So how about a cute kitten palate-cleanser? Supervisor Katy Tang’s City Hall office is hosting kittens as part of its "Twelve Days of Kittens" tradition, an effort to raise pet adoption awareness. Here is an unrelated photo of a kitten:

More news in brief:

  • Mr. Tipple's Recording Studio will open early next week at 39 Fell St., and we took an inside peek at the new bar/music venue.
  • Did you know that Courtney Love used to skinny-dip in the Phoenix Hotel's pool? That, and other little-known facts about the rock-star hangout.
  • Here's a recap of this week's “Talking Tech in the Tenderloin” meet-up. The next installment will be held on March 30th.
  • And finally, the Chronicle rode along for a "mysterious four-hour party" that trekked through the TL in the dark of night. Led by Del Seymour, the underground event is described as a "pub-crawl-meets-summer camp adventure."
