A construction worker was critically injured by a steamroller while performing road work at the corner of Vicente Street and 18th Avenue this afternoon.
We spoke to Jonathan Baxter of the SF Fire Department, who gave us more details. He said the SFFD answered the call for assistance at 12:10pm, and were on the scene minutes later. The worker, 50, was taken to the trauma center at SF General, where his condition is said to be stable.
Baxter said the worker was not an employee of SF Public Works. The work had been contracted out to LC General Engineering & Construction, but it's unclear if the worker was employed by them.
Cal/OSHA and the SFPD are currently investigating at the scene.
