Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.
If you've had a lifelong dream of being a background dancer in a music video, now's your chance. Bay Area-based Panic Is Perfect is filming their new video tonight at Madrone—and the bar is inviting locals to be a part of the scene.
Panic Is Perfect is described by Live 105 as an "electro-pop quintet" that draws inspiration from the likes of The Killers and Vampire Weekend. The band was recently picked up by Guerrilla Management, who used to manage Michael Franti & Spearhead. Their last music video garnered over 200,000 views on YouTube.
"They have a long history with Madrone Art Bar, performing there as well as releasing their first two videos at my Fringe indie dance party," DJ Kristin Graff told us. "We're trying to get people out to be part of the event."
The whole shebang is free, and Panic Is Perfect will play at the event while videographers film the crowd.
If dancing at a concert feels like the perfect way to shake off your rainy winter blues, The Independent is offering a double-header tomorrow night, with Austin quintet Whiskey Shivers and folk-rock band Goodnight, Texas. San Francisco is the fourth stop on the duo's West Coast tour.
In other Divisadero news, Rare Device is hosting an art show celebrating its employee artists. The boutique and art gallery's show will bring "artists of different mediums and backgrounds coming together to explore and share each of their individual takes on the meaning of the word 'home'." The show will debut this Friday, and host a mid-show opening on January 22nd from 6pm-9pm.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for a number of community events hosted by longtime comic dealer Comix Experience. All the events below will take place before the end of the month.
