In this week's SFPD Central Station Captain's Newsletter, Capt. David Lazar writes about several instances of great police work, including a few potential burglaries in North Beach that were thwarted by officers.

Also, mark your calendar for his monthly community meeting, to be held from 6–7pm on February 18th at Nob Hill's Scarlet Huntington Hotel (1075 California St.)

One thing the department can't stress enough: Stay safe during Super Bowl City. The SFPD's special Super Bowl web page has tons of tips and details, which include a long list of what is and isn't allowed into Super Bowl City. For instance, coolers, lawn chairs, pets (except service animals) and alcohol are prohibited, and only up to 100 milliliters of liquids, gels, creams and pastes are allowed. Now for some recent crimes called from SFPD daily recaps:

Man insulted, then assaulted

An aggravated assault was reported at 10:20am Jan. 22nd, on the 500 block of Market Street in the FiDi. A 27-year-old man entered a store, and a man of about age 30–35 followed him to the back of the store. The suspect called the victim a name, and although the victim walked away, the suspect went behind him and continued the verbal attacks before assaulting him. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was released by medics on the scene.

The victim, a 34-year-old man, tried to recover the bottles as a man of about age 30–35 drove up in a gray Hyundai Sonata, motioned that he had a weapon and tried to drive off with the woman. The victim got in front of the car as the male suspect hit the gas, jumping onto the hood and riding for 15 feet before hopping off. The male suspect drove off heading southbound on Hyde Street, and he and the female suspect got away with the booze.

He went to the room, and both a male and female suspect arrived shortly after, battering him and stealing his laptop. Both suspects were located and taken into custody. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, including loss of consciousness and bruises and cuts to his face and neck.

Man spies intruder in kitchen

At about 3:05pm Jan. 24th, a man, 35, heard noise coming from his kitchen on the 800 block of Taylor Street in Lower Nob Hill. He went to investigate and saw a man in his late 40s to early 50s standing in the doorway. The suspect fled after seeing the victim, who reported his window was broken. Nothing was taken.

Pocket pilferers pinch passport

Three men, about age 18–25, robbed a man, 22, of his United Kingdom passport at 1:05pm Jan. 24th at Geary Street and Grant Avenue in Union Square. The three suspects forcefully went through the victim's pockets, fleeing the scene with the passport.

At Market and Fremont streets in the FiDi at 9pm Jan. 25th, a woman of about age 30–40 approached a 24-year-old woman from behind, pulled her to the ground by her hair, punched her, and grabbed her cell phone, then fled the scene.
