Fine & Rare, the six-month old restaurant and commissary kitchen at 555 Golden Gate, is now serving breakfast, with the help of a newcomer to its space: La Sombra Juice.
From 8-11am Monday through Friday, neighbors can enjoy Fine & Rare's hot prepared meals, like organic steel-cut oatmeal with maple syrup ($4), breakfast sandwiches and tacos ($4-$6), as well as La Sombra's fresh-squeezed juices ($5-$8) and smoothies ($$6.50-$7.50), made with locally sourced fruits and veggies. (Since it's not online yet, here's the full breakfast menu.)
Christy Osorio, La Sombra's co-founder and "juiceologist," had previously been popping up at Mojo Bicycle Cafe. She says this new opportunity came about after she met Ted Wilson, owner of Fine & Rare, through mutual friends. Both businesses share a common philosophy of sourcing and cooking local, organic, health-minded food, so they decided to collaborate to launch breakfast service.
Fine & Rare's location—just above City Hall and below Lower Polk— is a perfect fit for La Sombra's mission of bringing delicious, nutritious food to areas lacking such options, Osorio said. While the area isn't a food desert, it has far fewer health-conscious eateries than Divisadero.

As La Sombra settles in, Osorio hopes to extend her services to businesses in the area, offering bulk orders delivered to their offices.
An avid cyclist, she's also planning to host regular community rides. The first ride, for intermediate cyclists, is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25th. They'll meet in front of Fine & Rare at 5:45am, ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and return by 7:30am—just in time for breakfast.
To keep up with La Sombra Juice as it settles into its new home, Osorio recommends following the company's Instagram account. Or just pop in for a juice or smoothie and a bite.
