Reports indicate that the fire may have begun in a second-floor light well.
As of 11:30am, Jones was closed from Geary to Ellis, and O'Farrell was closed from Taylor to Leavenworth. No more smoke was visible from the building, and it appears that no one was injured in the fire. Nearby residents have been told that they can reenter their homes.
Update, 12:15pm: The Examiner reports that the fire was reported at at 511 Jones St., the location of the Indian restaurant Chutney, and investigators think the fire may have started in the kitchen.
Two SRO units above the restaurant were damaged, and the residents of those units were moved into vacant units in the same building.
