It's been a busy week out in the fog belt. Here's a chance to catch up on all the news you might have missed.

Over the weekend, we learned of plans to respond to rising sea levels in the Outer Sunset, which may threaten the city's infrastructure. Plans include rerouting part of the Great Highway and replacing it with sand—a lot of sand.

Police are seeking help in locating a suspect who stole a car from the 19th and Lincoln Shell while the owner was inside the station. The thief was caught on surveillance video.

In welcome news for a small slice of Sunset residents, Bay Area-based internet service provider Sonic recently began rolling out their gigabit fiber service in the neighborhood. It boasts download speeds of up to 1000 MB per second, by far the fastest in the neighborhood. For now, though, service is limited to the area bounded by 20th and 24th Avenues between Lincoln and Taraval.

Meanwhile, we got acquainted with some Outer Sunset business owners. Soojin Chae and Yina Kim, of shoe repair shop and retailer ODSY Workshop, may be the city's youngest cobblers.

We also heard from the Sam family, owners of the new Macau-style bakery Mr. Bread on 20th and Taraval. The family has been prepping pastries for over 30 years, most recently at Victor's Bakery on 17th and Taraval.

A month after plans were announced for a new cannabis dispensary at 23rd & Irving, we took a look back at the Sunset's first dispensary, which met its dramatic end after a DEA raid in 2005.

Finally, a big change may be underway at the corner of 19th & Kirkham. An application was filed with the Planning Department to replace the Quality Tune-Up shop with a preschool. The application was light on details, but we'll update you as we learn more.

Though the wet weather continues, there are plenty of indoor events to keep you dry and entertained this weekend. If you've been meaning to visit the San Francisco Zoo, they could use your help counting animals between now and January 31st. Census takers will be entered into a drawing for free zoo tickets or a behind-the-scenes tour.
