
While we don't report on every crime, we do our best to keep you informed of major crimes and safety concerns in the neighborhood. Here's a selection of crimes reported around the Tenderloin over the past three weeks. All details are pulled from the SFPD's daily crime recaps, unless otherwise noted.
Attacked & Robbed
At about 9pm Jan. 17th, a 60-year-old woman was attacked and robbed on the unit block of Turk Street. The unidentified suspect approached from behind, hit the victim over the head and took her money. The suspect fled and was not arrested, while the victim was transferred to the hospital.
A 25-year-old woman was robbed by two suspects at 11:10pm Jan. 16th at Larkin and McAllister. The suspects approached the victim from behind. As one suspect pressed a hard unknown object to her back, the other demanded her property. With her purse, phone, jewelry and clothing, the suspects fled and were not apprehended.
At about 1:20pm Jan. 7th, a 40-year-old woman was attacked and robbed at Geary and Larkin. The suspect, a man in his 30s, approached the victim and slapped her. When the suspect dropped her phone, he grabbed it and ran. No arrest was made.
Robbed At Gunpoint
A 20-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint at 5:15pm Dec. 31st by three male suspects in their 20s. The suspects approached and one put a gun to his stomach and demanded his property. The victim complied and all three fled but were later arrested.
Shooting
As we reported last week, a man was shot multiple times at 1:15am Jan. 14th on the 200 block of Leavenworth Street. Two unidentified suspects walked up and shot the victim, a 33-year-old man, multiple times with a handgun. The victim suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the leg and stomach. No arrests were made, but SFPD did recover casings from the scene.
Assaults
A 69-year-old woman was approached and pushed to the ground around 11pm Jan. 7th at Market Street and Cyril Magnin. She was transferred to the hospital with a minor head injury. The suspect, a woman age 35-40, fled on foot and was not arrested.
A 69-year-old man was assaulted at 2am Jan. 1st after asking a group of people walking on the 100 block of Taylor Street for money. The victim followed a group of people and asked one, a 22-year-old female, for money. The suspect started a physical altercation with victim, and the group got involved. The victim then fell to ground and the group left. However, the suspect kicked and punched the victim while he was on the ground. Responding police then took the suspect into custody.
Post-Nightclub Robberies, Attacks
Three men in their late 20s were attacked at 2am Jan. 16th outside a club on the 100 block of Ellis Street. After leaving the nightclub, the victims got into an argument with two unidentified suspects. The suspects then struck the victims with beer bottles and fled on foot. All three victims suffered lacerations to the head and one was transported to the hospital. No arrest was made.
At 2am Jan. 17th, a 25-year-old woman leaving a nightclub was robbed at Market and Eddy Streets. The victim was approached by two suspects who took her phone and wallet and fled. "Very intoxicated," the victim was transferred to the hospital. The suspects were not arrested.
Bizarre Lyft Mix-up Ends In Robbery
As we previously reported, a 22-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint after entering the wrong vehicle at 1am Jan. 12th on the 100 block of Mason Street. Intoxicated, the victim assumed the car he was getting into was the Lyft he ordered. The driver then drove him around the city until a second suspect hopped in and robbed him at gunpoint.
Delivery Driver Assaulted
The driver of a delivery truck was attacked at 7am Jan. 8th in Stevenson Alley at Sixth Street. The victim was parking his delivery vehicle when the unidentified suspect approached and got into an argument with the victim. The argument escalated, and the victim was found lying on the ground unconscious with a laceration to the head and trauma to the jawbone. The suspect was not apprehended.
Home Invasions
Around 3:20am Jan. 8th, a 43-year-old woman attempted to force entry into a residence on the 1200 block of Market Street. While the suspect did not gain entry to the apartment, she did damage the victim's door and fled after a confrontation with neighbors. No arrest was made.
A 64-year-old resident on the 600 block of Ellis Street was robbed by an intruder at 5pm Jan. 4th. The suspect, a 47-year-old man, knocked on the victim's door and when she answered, he forced his way inside. He then punched her in the face and fled. The victim was transferred to the hospital. The suspect was not apprehended.
Police Commission To Focus On Tenderloin Crime, Safety Measures Tonight
Interested in hearing how the Tenderloin Police Station is combatting crime and safety issues in the neighborhood? About six months after taking command of the Tenderloin Police Station, Captain Teresa Gracie is scheduled to update the San Francisco Police Commission on the station's activities at 6pm tonight at the Salvation Army Kroc Center (240 Turk St.)
Once the commission concludes its regular business, Captain Gracie will be given the floor to discuss the station's crime and safety measures with the commission. Members of the public will each be given up to three minutes each to share their comments and concerns as well.
