Known as the Tomales Bay Shipwreck, Iverness Shipwreck, or the S.S Point Reyes, the vessel was originally dragged aground by the lands previous owner who had intended to fix the ship up. When the land was taken over by a wetlands restoration firm, the boat was an obvious target for removal. It was fortunately saved by local photographers in the area. However, on Monday at 1:30 a.m the Iverness fire department was called when the old boat was engulfed in flames. Firefighters fought the blaze for more than two hours finally putting it out at about 4 a.m. Leaving the entire stern of the vessel demolished. Iverness fire Chief Jim Fox commented “People have practically made a living photographing it and painting it. For a derelict vessel, it's a local institution.” A Instagram photo of the boat that was apparently taken at night with fiery arcs of flare-like fireworks shooting from what appears to be its rear deck. Chief Fox says they won't investigate because there's no evidence of a crime
"This was already a derelict vessel. I don't know how you can damage something that's already broken". This is a very unfortunate situation.
