Residents and visitors to Ocean Beach will soon have more options around 46th Avenue and Taraval. Streamline Cafe, serving food and coffee, will open up at 3560 Taraval St. this spring, on the site of the former Beach N' Boba.
Dion Garcia, Brent Wilson, and David Quinby are behind Streamline. Quinby is also co-owner of the Riptide, the beloved nearby bar which is undergoing renovations after a fire in August (it's expected to reopen in late spring).
We got in touch with Garcia, who got to know Quinby as a regular at the Riptide, to hear more about the new cafe.
Streamline has long been a dream of Garcia’s, ever since he moved to Parkside in 2003. He says that his love of cafes was born out of a career spent traveling—and practicality. As he waited for the L-Taraval to commute into the Financial District, he often found himself wanting a quick coffee at his Muni stop at 46th and Taraval.
Garcia and Quinby saw an opening when the owner of Beach N’ Boba decided to close the cafe in May of 2015. “It was successful, but Wilson [the owner] wanted to do other things,” says Garcia. The name "Streamline" is inspired by the rounded Streamline Moderne-style facade of the building.
Garcia and his co-owners are still finalizing the concept and menu, but one thing is certain: Streamline will serve coffee from several San Francisco-based roasters, allowing customers to try different local coffees all in one place.
