The Castro has been spared any major problems due to the recent stormy weather—aside from the usual downed trees in Duboce Triangle, of course.
But it's looking like another rainy weekend is coming up, which should be perfect for the indoor talks and book readings on the calendar this weekend.
Biologist and author Julia Serano will be at the GLBT History Museum Thursday night to talk about the past decade of trans activism. She'll also be celebrating the second edition of her groundbreaking 2007 book "Whipping Girl: A Transsexual Woman on Sexism and the Scapegoating of Femininity."

Looking for a kid-friendly activity? Honey Mahogany, who you may recognize from RuPaul's Drag Race or from her Monday-night shows at Midnight Sun (among other places), will be hosting a kids' story hour at the Harvey Milk Memorial Library this Saturday at noon.
Want to help keep the neighborhood safe? Check out the free training for Castro Community on Patrol, this coming Tuesday at the Chase Bank starting at 7pm.
Now, a quick question for readers: how's the new noise signal at Market and Castro working for you?
An anonymous reader wrote in this week with the following:
The City installed audible crosswalk signals for the sight impaired at Castro and Market. They were turned on early this morning for the first time and are far too loud. I could hear the beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep from my home half a mile away.
I realize that a certain level of ambient noise is part of city living, but it seems unnecessary to have constant beep beep beep at that volume for the occasional sight impaired person who wants to cross that street.
Do you like the new sound signal as is, or you do agree that it needs adjusting?
