Each week, we'll feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered for next week, please submit your event here.

This Saturday night, a special outdoor movie screening is coming to the PROXY space at Hayes and Octavia. Heart of a Dog, a film by artist, musician and performer Laurie Anderson, will be playing for free on the big screen. But the event isn't just for people—if you have a canine companion, you're encouraged to bring them along too.

Saturday's screening marks the kickoff of a series of spring film screenings being held at PROXY. Last October, PROXY screened a number of independent movies as part of a Fall Film Festival, and starting this week, short films and movies will be screened at PROXY every week for six weeks.

The movie itself will start at 7:45pm, but it's recommended viewers arrive early to get a seat, as the event is open and free to the public.

In addition to the film, Paw Patch Pastries will be on hand selling organic, natural treats to keep your pup busy. (PROXY will also be selling human snacks and beer.) And SF Animal Care and Control will host an adoption event from 5-7pm, so if you don't have a dog of your own yet, you might be able to find your new best friend.

If dogs and experimental indie films aren't quite your thing, check out a few other events going on in the Hayes Valley neighborhood this week:

If you have an event you'd like to add to our events calendar, you can submit it here for free. If approved, your event will appear on our new calendar and within the Hoodline news feed, which is seen by thousands of local readers every day.

If you submit, we may also choose to write about it or list it in our weekly neighborhood roundups.
