We'll regularly feature an especially interesting event in the neighborhood based on the event submissions we get, and what we hear about while we're out on the beat. If you want to be considered, please submit your event here.
During the day, Workshop may seem a bit mysterious, sitting on the corner of McAllister and Baker streets with its doors closed and lights off. But come evening, a flurry of creativity begins, with workshops in pizza-making, hair-styling, terrarium-building and more.
In the seven years that Workshop has been around, owner and founder Kelly Malone has built connections and gathered a plethora of creative types to teach the neighborhood their skills. This Friday is no exception, with a crafty flashback to 1970s interior decor.
Workshop Mashup: Macrame Plant Holders and Terrariums unites the present-day trend of living terrariums with the vintage look of macramé. Taught by artist Jennie Lennick, the three-hour course will cover everything from different types of macramé knots to building terrariums in different glass objects.
The workshop costs $74, and includes materials. If you have a plant you're particularly fond of, feel free to bring it along to use in class. Find more event details here:
If macramé knots sound too tricky and terrariums don't get you excited, here are some other events taking place around Divisadero this week that might just fit your style:
